Every time I go for a run, you’re with me; not physically, of course, but you’re in my heart. Here’s what it looks like.
* * *
I dreaded, loathed, hated running when I was younger. Did you hear that? I HATED it! In high school PE, I’d cut across the track because there was no way I was running 4 laps. Inevitably, I was caught every time and that just made me hate it even more.
Over the past 20+ years, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know some serious runners and have always admired their determination and discipline. It took watching my brother-in-love cross the finish line of his first marathon to give me the overwhelming motivation to kick this hatred to the moon.
It’s been 3 months now since I began my training and I can’t even begin to express all the positives that I’ve gained from it so far. Besides the obvious health benefits–better sleep, tone muscles, etc.–I’m overcoming mental obstacles. Of course, I have sore legs and I can’t keep myself hydrated enough (who has time to pee every 15 mins:-)) but I’m gaining focus and confidence as I run this race called life. My heart is happy and full of excitement for all that this beautiful path I continue to push myself along provides. More importantly because I take each of you with me on my runs. You keep me focused on how I want nothing more than to give back all that I’ve been given. We’re in this journey together and that just makes me want to keep on moving, to keep running and to keep giving.
Have a wonderful weekend:-)
Giant hugs!
